Recently, on the final review of the "Culture City of East Asia" in 2023 organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Chengdu was conferred the title of the culture city, taking first place among 11 candidate cities in East Asia.

 

Co-launched by China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea in 2013, the "Culture City of East Asia" selection event is an important achievement in working on the consensus in the field of Humanities among these three countries and a concrete act in fully implementing the Belt and Road Initiative and the initiatives proposed on the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations.

 

Chengdu is a famous historical and cultural city with a long history of over 2,300 years. It has been praised as the "Land of Abundance" since ancient times. With the cultural characteristics like the mysterious Sanxingdui site, exquisite Shu (another name for Sichuan Province) brocade and embroidery artworks, and the fascinating giant panda base, Chengdu has attracted people not only from East Asia but from around the world.

 

Chengdu then will carry out various tourism activities with the title of the "Culture City of East Asia". While displaying its history and culture on the world stage, Chengdu will also carry forward and show the unique charm of excellent traditional Chinese culture.
