The Living Water Garden located in Chengdu was the first inner city ecological park in the world with water protection as its theme. Since its completion in 1998, it has become the most popular park in the city and is on the national tourist registry. After the renovation in 2022, the park reopens to the public on July 29 with a new look.
This international award-winning park is designed as a natural wetland water cleaning system. It displays the concept of a "water treatment system in artificial wetland" and simulates "the natural vegetation of subtropics on Emei Mountain". The central route of the park is a purification process of the river, where water changes from "turbid" to "clear" and from "still" to "flowing".
The entire park itself is designed to be in the shape of a fish, a symbol of regeneration in Chinese culture. In addition to the water, plants in the park are also a highlight. There are more than 400 plant species, including endangered plant species of Mount Emei and national key protected plants.
The ecosystem of the park has been improved through the use of mosquito traps and organic ecological interventions in both water and plants, making the space "basically mosquito-free". What a paradise for mosquito haters!
