The final of the "Splendid Tour in Tianfu, Chengdu Shines the World - Chengdu Tourism International Ambassador Competition" was staged on July 5.
Hosted by Chengdu Media Group, the event was a huge success, with hundreds of players and professionals from the tourist sector working together to present Chengdu's beauty to the world. Following the competition, the host and the winning players will collaborate to continue promoting Chengdu's charm to the rest of the world.
With nine contestants competed in the final round after two months of competition, the final was themed around "Chengdu: A Vibrant and Hospitable Park City with Snowy Mountain Skyline". The nine participants concentrated on seven topics with Chengdu features, including pandas, the ancient civilization of Shu, the Three Kingdoms, poetry, leisure, gastronomy, and fashion. The competitors presented "a tour of Chengdu" to the audience in English, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, and Thai.
"This competition showed me how different Chengdu looks from everyone's perspective. Chengdu is a city full of infinite charm and needs everyone to explore its beauty from all aspects," Xie Ying, one of the judges, remarked.
Gong Yaokun
Gong Yaokun, who took first place in the competition, is a post-90s Chengdu native and has been working as an English tour guide in the city since graduating from university. Showing "kinds of Chengdu", his natural, fluent, and detailed presentation was well-received by the judges and the audience.
Xu Xiaodong, the third-place winner of the competition, was the only participant to enter the final round of the competition with a speech in Chinese. With a poetic touch, he spoke passionately about the happiness he had gained in the "vibrant and hospitable Chengdu". "In the future, I will continue to introduce my hometown, Chengdu, to the world," he said.
Xiao Shengqin
Xiao Shengqin, an associate professor at the Southwest Petroleum University and a judge of the competition, said: "This competition conveys the 'beauty of Rongcheng (Chengdu' s nickname)' to visitors from home and broad in a way that is 'understandable and enjoyable', helping Chengdu to become a world-famous city for its culture and tourism. This multi-lingual event showcases the diversity and inclusiveness of Chengdu with international standards and excellent performance."
