To retain these unique and beautiful creatures in nature and at the same time contribute to the conservation of global biodiversity, China continues to strengthen the protection of wild animals.

Many endangered species live in Sichuan, including giant pandas, Sichuan golden monkeys, black-necked cranes, etc. They are frequently spotted in various protected areas.

The Asian golden cat

On March 30, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the infrared camera on the roadside captured a precious picture of Asian golden cats feeding, and it is the first high-definition image of this scene in China.

The Asian golden cat often referred to simply as the golden cat, is a medium-sized cat that lives in forest habitats. It was listed as a state-level endangered animal species in 2021. Due to its long period of little attention, the Golden Cat is one of the least understood cats.

Historically, golden cats were widely distributed in the mountain forests of south and southwest China, but the existing population has seriously shrunk compared with the past.

The black-necked crane

In early April, groups of black-necked cranes were photographed returning to Sichuan at Hanyuan lakeside in Ya'an City and Moon Bay Wetland in Hongyuan County, Aba Prefecture.

It is understood that the black-necked crane is the only crane in the world that grows and breeds on the plateau and is listed as a state-level endangered animal species in China, together with giant pandas and Sichuan golden monkeys.

In mid-to-late March every year, the black-necked cranes that spend their winter on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau begin to migrate, and they gradually move to the Zoige Grassland in Sichuan Province to breed their offspring. When temperatures drop in November, these black-necked cranes will migrate south again.
