On August 3, World Squash and the Chinese Squash Association announced that the 2027 World Squash Junior Championships (World Juniors) will be held in Chengdu in July 2027.This marks the first time the top junior squash event will come to China.

 

 

The men’s World Squash Junior Championships was first held in 1980, followed by the inaugural women’s championships in 1981. Initially held every two years, the championships became an annual event in 2009. It brings together the world’s top squash players aged under 19 to be crowned world champions.

 

 

Additionally, World Squash announced that the flagship squash event will be hosted by Linjiang Asian Squash Training Base in Shuangliu District, Chengdu. The base, freshly completed this year as the national squash team training base, covers 442 mu and boasts 22 World-Squash-certified courts in total, including 16 all-glass courts and 6 panel-wall courts. It accommodates 800 spectators and is equipped with a 155-room athlete apartment building, as well as supporting hotels and restaurants.

 

 

As an official competition sport at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, squash is gaining increasing attention in China. World Squash President Zena Wooldridge stated, “World Squash is delighted to partner with the Chinese Squash Association to deliver the 2027 World Squash Junior Championships in the magnificent new squash venue in Chengdu. The World Juniors 2027 promises to be a remarkable experience for all participants.”

 

Chengdu is transitioning from a “world-class host city for international sporting events” to a “world-class city of sports”. The arrival of the top junior squash event in Chengdu is a vivid example of Chengdu’s efforts in expanding its portfolio of high-level sporting events and accelerating the agglomeration of international sports resources. Looking ahead, Chengdu will introduce more trendy, fashionable, and high-level international sporting events, drive urban development through events, and further strengthen the city’s sports identity.
