The air corridor connecting Chengdu with the economies spanning the Eurasian continent is set to expand, as Turkish Airlines will launch a new direct passenger route from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport to Istanbul, the largest city of Türkiye, in November this year. Tickets for the route are now available for pre-sale.

 

 

Starting November 11 this year, Turkish Airlines will launch a new route to Chengdu, operating three flights per week with Boeing 787-9 wide-body aircraft. The outbound flight TK227, operating on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, is scheduled to depart from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport at 00:45 and arrive at Istanbul Airport at 05:55 local time after a scheduled flight duration of 10 hours and 10 minutes. The return flight TK226, operating on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, is scheduled to depart from Istanbul Airport at 02:05 and return to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport at 15:40 Beijing time after a scheduled flight duration of 8 hours and 35 minutes.

 

Currently, Sichuan Airlines operates direct flights from Chengdu to Istanbul. With the addition of Turkish Airlines, the number of direct flights from Chengdu to Istanbul will increase to 7-10 flights per week, with two direct flights available on certain days.

 

 

As of the end of June this year, the number of international and regional regular direct air routes from Chengdu has been brought to 86, the highest in central and western China. In the first six months of the year, Chengdu’s International Aviation Hub recorded passenger throughput of 44.148 million trips and cargo and mail throughput of 551,000 tonnes, maintaining Chengdu’s position as the third-largest city in the Chinese mainland by air passenger traffic.
