The 2025 IWSC international spirits competition has kicked off in the city of Chengdu in southwest China's Sichuan Province, marking the first time the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) has held its spirits-focused event in Asia.

Founded in 1969 and often hailed as the "Oscars of the Liquor World," the IWSC is globally recognized for its rigorous judging standards and serves as a symbol of excellence in the industry.

The event brought together renowned international spirits experts, sommeliers and buyers to conduct professional blind tastings and discussions, evaluating hundreds of spirits.

The selection of Chengdu as this year's location reflects the city's growing influence as a key spirits-producing region in China, according to the organizers.

From Wednesday to Saturday, the city will organize visits to local distilleries and cultural landmarks for international distributors and buyers.
