Recently, Zhang Xingdong, Professor at Sichuan University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was awarded the International Award 2025 by the European Society for Biomaterials. Academician Zhang Xingdong is the sole recipient of the award for 2025 and the first Chinese recipient of this honor in over four decades of its history. As a pioneer in China’s biomaterials, he proposed the concept of “tissue-inducing biomaterials”, which has been widely recognized by the international biomaterials community and included in the Definitions of Biomaterials for the Twenty-First Century.
