On July 22, the inaugural “Greater Bay Area Premium Freight Trains” departed simultaneously from Chengdu and Guangzhou. Each train is able to carry nearly 1,400 tons of cargo, reaching the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area from Chengdu in as little as 32 hours. Annually, the bidirectional service is projected to shift one million tons of freight from road to rail. Complementing established routes like Yangtze River Freight Train (connecting Chengdu-Chongqing area with the Yangtze River Delta), Northbound Freight Train (linking Sichuan, Shandong and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area), and the stably operational CHINA RAILWAY Express, Chengdu has now established dedicated east-west-north-south rail freight corridors.
