Chengdu Museum and Bologna launch collaboration

On May 18, International Museum Day, Chengdu Museum and Division of Civic Museums of the Department of Culture, Sports, and City Promotion of Bologna, Italy formalized a friendly cooperative agreement, which encompasses future cooperation with over ten museums within Bologna’s civic museum system.

The agreement outlines cooperation across three key areas: the exchange of artworks and cultural exhibitions, research initiatives, and talent exchange and training programs.

 

Bologna City

 

Museum exchanges between the two cities have already been underway since the previous year. In June 2024, the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Chengdu Municipality introduced Chengdu International Friendship City Museums Initiative to Bologna, which was met with a positive response. In November 2024, Osvaldo Panaro, Head of the Department of Culture, Sports, and City Promotion, led a delegation to Chengdu, where they held a meeting with officials of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Chengdu Municipality and Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcast-TV, and Tourism. Both parties reached a preliminary consensus on cooperation between the two cities’ museums. Osvaldo Panaro remarked that Bologna, as a famous historical and cultural city in Italy, boasts abundant cultural and artistic resources. Both sides expressed their commitment to jointly promoting cultural exchanges and heritage preservation of China and Italy, and enhancing friendly engagement and pragmatic cooperation between their museums.

 

In November 2024, the delegation of Bologna Municipality, Italy visited Chengdu Museum.

 

Similarly, In October 2024, Chengdu Museum signed a letter of intent for cooperation with Fabre Museum in Montpellier, France. In recent years, the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Chengdu Municipality has proactively facilitated museum exchanges among Chengdu’s international friendship cities. To date, multiple friendship cities, including Turin (Italy), Bonn (Germany), Manchester (the United Kingdom), and Pécs (Hungary), have expressed their interest in cooperation.
