Chad Sinclair, a Canadian who has been living in Chengdu for 18 years, is renowned for his Penjing works, similar to the commonly known Bonsai. In fact, as a musician born in an artistic family, he once had a band in China.

 

The romantic story of Chad and his wife grew from their love of music. And Penjing broadened his social circle and prompted him to stay in Chengdu.

 

 

Penjing captures life moments

 

 

Chad had a close relationship with Penjing since childhood. When he was in elementary school, his grandmother took him to a temple where he first saw this Chinese art - a miniature world amazingly compacted into a shallow pot. Since then, Chad has been drawn to the Chinese Bonsai and yearned for this ancient country with a long history and brilliant culture.

In the summer of 2003, Chad embarked on the road to China to visit Chinese landscapes and record the most beautiful sceneries in the form of Penjing. Later, Chad moved his residence to Chengdu, where he found the oldest Penjing school and many skilled Penjing artists, so he decided to stay here and make his Penjing a part of the city embellishments.

 

Chad has received strong support from his wife, and they have a Penjing studio in the Penjing Village in Yanjiawanwan village, which is located in Chongzhou city in western suburban Chengdu. Here, Chad feels at home with the inspiration from nature, making his Penjing feature seasonal beauty.

Music pumps out from life radio

 

 

Born in a family of artists in Canada, Chad's father and uncles are well-known musicians in his hometown with several published CDs and songs.

 

Twenty-one years ago, the death of his talented father changed his thinking on life. On April 30th, 2021, the birthday of Chad's father, Chad and his uncle played a song online in memory of his father and the recollections with their families.

No matter where he is, Chad's affection for music never stops. Chad's home has a small music studio where he and his wife often play the piano and sing in their spare time. Music brings them together.
