To celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-Italy diplomatic ties, the opening ceremony of the 2025 Italian Film Weekend in Chengdu was held at Emperor Cinemas Chengdu Ufun on the evening of November 14. The event was hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Chengdu Municipality, the Consulate General of Italy in Chongqing, and Chengdu Radio and Television, and organized by Chengdu Film Group.

Key attendees included consuls general and consular officials of the consulates general of Italy, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, and Nepal in Chengdu and Chongqing, along with representatives of the Publicity Department of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, Chengdu People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Chengdu Radio and Television, Chengdu Film Group, and other institutions. In a lively atmosphere, nearly 300 viewers gathered at the opening ceremony, filling the auditorium to near capacity.

From November 14 to 16, the film weekend was simultaneously held at Emperor Cinemas Chengdu Ufun and Chengdu Xinming Cinema. Three Italian classics were screened free of charge for Chengdu residents—La Grande Bellezza (“The Great Beauty”), Le Otto Montagne (“The Eight Mountains”), and La Dolce Vita (“The Sweet Life”). Although each film represents a distinct period in Italy’s cinematic history, all of them embody a shared spirit: a passion for beauty, reflection on life, and a deep affection for existence itself. The three-day event has attracted over 1,000 residents, with each screening filled to capacity and receiving overwhelming acclaim.

In recent years, China and Italy have continuously deepened cultural exchanges, with frequent mutual visits and cooperation in the film and television sector yielding abundant fruits. It is worth mentioning that the Italian film C’è Ancora Domani! (“There’s Still Tomorrow”), screened during the 2025 Chengdu Europe Culture Season Film Week this July, not only won the Best Picture at the 2nd Golden Panda Awards but was also recently honored with the Best Foreign Language Film at the 38th Golden Rooster Awards. Meanwhile, Chinese film and television teams have repeatedly received accolades at major Italian film festivals. This highlighted the vibrant energy and promising prospects of bilateral cinematic cooperation.
