As the most high-profile professional tennis event in western China, the 2026 Chengdu Open, an ATP World Tour 250 event, will take place from September 22 to 29 at Sichuan International Tennis Center, officially kicking off the “China season” of professional tennis.

The first group of players announced for the 2026 Chengdu Open features an impressive lineup, with several established tennis stars confirmed to compete.

Valentin Vacherot, champion of the 2025 Shanghai Masters, will make his Chengdu debut. The “dark horse”, who went all the way from qualifying as a player ranked outside the world’s top 200 to winning the title, becomes the lowest-ranked singles champion in ATP Masters history and has won the Breakthrough of the Year in the 2025 ATP Awards. Since then, Valentin Vacherot has risen into the world’s top 20, making his Chengdu debut highly anticipated among fans.

Spanish player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will also make his Chengdu debut. Known for his signature diving saves and underarm serves, the talented Spaniard is set to deliver highly entertaining matchups for spectators.

Shang Juncheng, one of the leading young players in Chinese men’s tennis, will return to the Chengdu Open for the third time. In September 2024, the then 19-year-old defeated a series of strong opponents here to claim his maiden ATP Tour title. Chengdu has since then become a “lucky land” in his career. Viewing 2026 as his “year of rebirth”, Shang Juncheng will once again set out from the city where he won his first title.
