The Chengdu Municipal Education Bureau, Chengdu Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and Chengdu Municipal Finance Bureau jointly launched a scholarship program for international students on March 18, 2014. Students from Chengdu's sister cities can apply for the scholarship.
To make Chengdu a more popular destination of study for students from around the world, the program is aimed to attract more foreign talents, promote educational communication and cooperation between Chengdu and its twin cities in the world, and give better understanding of the city to more foreign friends.
The scholarships available include: 30,000 yuan / year for a doctoral student, 25,000 yuan / year for a master student and 20,000 yuan / year for an undergraduate student. For exchange students of non-degree education, the scholarship is 1,000 yuan/month and not more than 10,000 yuan/month in total.
Chengdu boasts a number of top institutions of higher education in China, such as Sichuan University, Southwest Jiaotong University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China.
