Famous Chinese poet,Li Bai once compared Chengdu to a heavenly city with picturesque scenery in his poem.

 

 

Chengdu,abbreviated as"Rong",is the capital of Sichuan Province.It is not only a center for consumption in West China,center for life in South-West China,and a national central emerging city in the world,but also China’s forefront in economy,science and technology,cultural and creative undertakings as well as external exchanges.Besides,it is an international comprehensive hub for transportation and communications.With an area of 14,300 square kilometers,the city governs 20 districts(cities) and counties and 3 national-level new areas.The three new areas consist of part of the Tianfu New Area whichis directly under Chengdu Municipality,Eastern New Area and Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone.Chengdu has apermanent resident population of over 20 million,according to the city's bureau of statistics.In addition,it won the title of the"Best Tourist City in China"by the former China National Tourism Administration andthe United Nations World Tourism Organization(UNWTO),and is named the"World City of Gastronomy"by the UNESCO.

Lastly, Chengdu is an important tourist distribution center in western China. From here, tourists can reach Emei Mountain, one of the Four Sacred Mountains of Buddhism in China, Leshan Giant Buddha, Yading Nature Reserve in Daocheng County and Shangri-La in Garze Tibetan autonomous prefecture on the south. Tourists can also reach Tibet on the west, and the world natural heritage Jiuzhaigou reserve and the fairy tale world Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area on the north.
