On November 4, 2025 (Brazil time), Chengdu and Rio de Janeiro signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations between Chengdu, Sichuan Province, People’s Republic of China, and Rio de Janeiro, Federative Republic of Brazil, where the two cities agreed to officially establish friendly cooperative relations. With this addition, the number of Chengdu’s municipal-level international friendship cities and international friendly cooperative cities has risen to 115.
