Recently, the Austrian National Tourist Office Promotion Conference was held in Chengdu, with the Consulate General of Austria in Chengdu in attendance. Thirteen Austrian tourism partners traveled to China to introduce the latest Austrian tourism offerings to the Chinese market and launch customized and personalized in-depth tourism products tailored to the preferences of Chinese tourists. The event attracted over 100 representatives from Chengdu’s tourism industry.

 

 

At the tourism promotion conference, industry representatives showed strong interest in the tourism products presented by Austrian exhibitors and regions, and engaged in one-on-one in-depth discussions. The event not only enabled tourism industry professionals from China and Austria to better seize market opportunities but also facilitated the active exploration of new cooperation models, thereby promoting the high-quality development of tourism sectors in both countries.

 

 

The promotion conference, an epitome of pragmatic cooperation between Chengdu and Austria, exemplifies another meaningful handshake that celebrates over 40 years of friendship city relations.

 

 

Chengdu and Linz, Austria established friendship city relations as far back as 1983, the first pair of friendship cities between China and Austria.

 

Chengdu presents Linz with a painted giant panda statue on the 40th anniversary of the friendship city relations between Chengdu and Linz.

 

In 2016, Chengdu and Vienna, the capital of Austria, established friendly cooperative relations. This milestone has continuously deepened friendship city interactions between Chengdu and Austria.

 

In December 2024, the direct flight from Chengdu to Vienna was launched, reducing the travel time to approximately 10 hours. The new connection has facilitated exchanges and trade cooperation between the two countries and fostered a robust bond of friendship between Chengdu and Austria.

 

Additionally, Chengdu and Austria have consistently deepened their cultural exchanges and mutual learning. During the 2022 Chengdu Europe Culture Season, Austrian artist Karin Pliem led Chengdu residents on a journey to explore the concept of “biocultural community” through her art exhibition.

 

During the 2024 Chengdu Europe Culture Season, the “New Melody of Vienna” Concert offered Chengdu residents a captivating feast of music rich in cultural experience and artistic enjoyment through exceptional artistry and passionate performances.

 

During the 2025 Chengdu Europe Culture Season, the artistic “galaxy” of Gustav Mahler, an Austrian composer and conductor, was vividly unfolded to the audience. The touching compositions that have endured through hundreds of years and the avant-garde paintings, represented by pixelism, were interwoven into a diverse and immersive artistic atmosphere in Chengdu’s cultural and artistic space.

 

May the linkage of the Chengdu-Vienna direct flight enable more Chengdu travelers to experience the grandeur of the Alps and more Austrian friends to discover the charm of the Land of Abundance. May the bridge of culture deepen in-depth exchanges in music and art. May the momentum of innovation create more possibilities for cooperation in customized tourism.
