Plan for Development of Chengdu Metropolitan Area Issued

After the National Development and Reform Commission officially approved the Plan for Development of Chengdu Metropolitan Area, the People's Government of Sichuan Province issued the document in due form on November 29. It is the third approved plan for a metropolitan area in China following Nanjing Metropolitan Area and Fuzhou Metropolitan Area, and the only one in the central and western regions in the country.

According to the Plan, Chengdu Metropolitan Area will center on Chengdu City and cover Deyang City, Meishan City and Ziyang City, which cover 33,100 square kilometers in total and have a permanent population of approximately 29.66 million at the end of 2020.

 

The Plan puts forward the following eight key tasks: optimizing the development layout of the metropolitan area, moving faster to build an integrated infrastructure network, working together to boost innovation-driven development, collaborating to establish modern high-end industrial clusters, enhancing opening-up and cooperation, promoting convenient and shared public service, facilitating joint protection and governance of eco-environment, and deepening system and institutional reform.
