1000 years ago, Chengdu became a cultural centre where arts and culture from the late Tang Dynasty and beyond conjoined. At its peak, performances involving an orchestra and dancers have been preserved thanks to poetry and the stone carvings found on the ancient sarcophagus of Wang Jian, Emperor of the Former Shu Kingdom.
