On the evening of August 12, Chengdu Rongcheng FC competed against Bangkok United in the AFC Champions League Elite (ACL Elite) 2025/26 playoff, marking the debut of Chengdu and Sichuan football in a formal continental competition. Chengdu Rongcheng FC cruised to a 3-0 win over Bangkok United, securing the first ACL win in the club history and qualifying for the group stage. Sporting events are a universal language, and home matches will attract more domestic and international fans to Chengdu, encouraging “travels with the events”. The event is expected to foster cultural exchanges and generate economic benefits, thereby contributing to the development of the new “ACL economy”.
