As the summer holiday begins, the following museums have extended their opening hours for the public. Let’s take a look!

 

 

Sichuan Museum

 

 

 

As the largest comprehensive museum in southwestern China, Sichuan Museum has a collection of over 350,000 artifacts as of August 2025, including over 70,000 rare exhibits. Its 14 exhibition halls feature 10 permanent exhibitions, covering calligraphy and paintings, ceramics, bronzeware, and other themes, along with four temporary exhibition halls.

 

Dates: July 1 to August 31, 2026

Open 09:00-18:30 (last entry at 18:00) from Tuesday to Sunday (closed on Mondays).

 

 

Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum

 

 

 

Du Fu Thatched Cottage was the former residence of Du Fu, a renowned Tang Dynasty poet, during his temporary stay in Chengdu. He lived here for nearly four years and composed more than 240 poems. Wei Zhuang, a late Tang Dynasty poet, rediscovered the remains of the thatched cottage and rebuilt the site for preservation. Since then, the cottage was renovated and expanded through the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. Today, it retains the architectural layout established after the renovations during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

 

 

Dates: July 1 to August 31, 2026

During the program, the museum adjusts its daily opening hours to 08:30-18:30. Ticket sales close at 17:30.

 

 

Chengdu Natural History Museum

 

 

 

The museum is the first natural science museum with a focus on earth sciences in western China and the largest natural history museum in southwestern China in terms of architectural volume.

 

 

Dates: July 4 to August 31, 2026

During the program, the museum adjusts its opening hours to 09:00-18:00 from Tuesday to Sunday. Ticket sales close at 17:00, and visitor entry ends at 17:30.

 

Sanxingdui Museum

 

 

The museum is the largest standalone museum building dedicated to an archaeological site in southwestern China. It exhibits over 1,500 pieces or sets of precious artifacts excavated from Sanxingdui Site, which offer a comprehensive and systematic presentation of the archaeological excavation discoveries and latest research results from Sanxingdui Site.

 

 

Dates: July 1 to August 31, 2026

During the program, the museum adjusts its daily opening hours to 08:30-20:00. Extended-hours tickets are checked from 17:00, and visitor entry ends at 18:00.
