Two Chengdu Institutions Named among Asia Top 20

Recently, Asia Cultural Heritage Research Institute Limited (ACI) released its list of the Top 20 University Museums in Asia. Sichuan University Museum and Chengdu Natural History Museum (Chengdu University of Technology Museum) are inscribed on the list based on their comprehensive strength, both ranking among the top 20 university museums in Asia.

 

 

Sichuan University Museum

 

Founded in 1914, Sichuan University Museum is the earliest museum established in southwestern China. As a national first-class museum, it ranks among the top tier of general university museums in China. Its collections include tens of thousands of valuable items spanning archaeological artifacts, ethnic and folk customs, ancient Chinese calligraphy works and paintings, natural specimens, and other categories. Its “Magnificent Landscape & Civilization of Sichuan in Southwest China” exhibition is permanently on view.

09:00-17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday. Last entry at 16:30. Closed on Mondays (except for statutory holidays).

 

Chengdu Natural History Museum

 

Covering a total floor area of over 50,000 square meters, the museum holds a collection of over 60,000 items and features six major permanent exhibition halls. Highlight exhibits include world-class dinosaur fossils, rare mineral crystals, and specimens of extant creatures.

In Chengdu, numerous lesser-known yet remarkable museums tucked away within university campuses present themselves on a diverse range of themes, each with its own unique character.

 

Electronic Science and Technology Museum

 

As China’s first general museum dedicated to electronics, the museum houses a collection of 15,000 exhibits from six major sectors of the electronics industry—communications, radar, broadcast and television, electronic measuring instruments, electronic components and parts, and computers.

09:00-12:00 and 14:00-17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday.

 

Museum of Chengdu University of TCM

 

The museum is the largest museum dedicated to pharmaceutical and medical science and technology in southwestern China, with an exhibition area of 4,500 square meters. The first floor houses the Medical History Museum, while the second floor houses the TCM Medicinal Materials Museum. Two main thematic exhibition areas, TCM and TCM medicinal materials, are featured.

Southwest Jiaotong University Locomotive Park

 

Established as China’s first university locomotive park, it preserves four historic locomotives from four eras—steam locomotives, internal combustion locomotives, electric locomotives, and maglev locomotives.
