As the number of international visitors to China continues to grow, China UnionPay introduced “Nihao China” app in December 2025 to provide inbound travelers with one-stop digital services covering payment, travel, life, cultural tourism, and other scenarios.

 

 

Focusing on payment and travel, “Nihao China” app is designed to offer a wide range of useful services.

 

The app supports top-ups via foreign cards issued by UnionPay or other major global bank cards, such as Visa and Mastercard. It enables online and offline payments across transportation, accommodation, shopping, and other common consumption scenarios.

 

Leveraging the combined payment acceptance network of UnionPay, WeChat Pay, and Alipay in China, the app ensures broader payment coverage. For online payments, it supports payments via over 300 apps, including 12306, Trip.com, Meituan, and JD.com.

 

The departure tax refund service is available in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Haikou, Sanya, and other key cities. With features like OCR recognition, QR code interaction, and an English interface, it ensures users efficient and convenient tax refunds.

 

 

The app’s travel services cover metro systems in 43 major cities and public transport systems in 1,760 administrative divisions at the county level or above in China. Traveling with only one QR code is now a reality. Handy navigation to nearby ATMs, currency exchange points, and other amenities is provided to enhance travel convenience. To facilitate cross‑currency payments, the app provides real-time global exchange rates and supports conversions across more than 160 currencies, including USD, RMB, and EUR.

 

 

As a platform that provides a wide range of services, “Nihao China” app is equipped with real-time and page translation tools, supporting multilingual translation of conversations and texts to effectively eliminate language barriers.

 

Additionally, the app features intelligent search, which allows users to access all features from the home page through one click. It adapts to the profile and usage preferences of each international visitor to offer personalized next step suggestions. Whether international users ask about tourist attractions, transportation guidance, food suggestions, or other questions, the app delivers accurate answers and offers navigation with precise routes. It will help visitors promptly acquire the information they need and thus enhance their travel experience.
