According to the statistics from Chengdu Immigration Inspection Station as of August 31, Chengdu’s aviation port processed over 835,000 entries and exits by Chinese mainland residents, reflecting a combined tourist flow engaging in cross-border study tours, family trips, family visits, and other activities. In terms of travel destinations, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore were among the most popular choices.

Meanwhile, inbound tourism remained highly popular among foreign nationals, fueled by China’s visa-free policies and The World Games 2025 Chengdu (TWG 2025 Chengdu). During the summer travel season, Chengdu Immigration Inspection Station processed over 201,000 foreign entries and exits, marking a year-on-year growth of 52.8%. This includes more than 7,200 entries and exits by individuals related to TWG 2025 Chengdu via Chengdu port.

The summer air transport statistics released by Sichuan Province Airport Group on September 1 reveal that Chengdu International Aviation Hub processed 112,000 flights, a passenger throughput of 16.765 million, and a cargo and mail throughput of 195,000 tonnes, representing year-on-year growth of 3.9%, 2.7%, and 11.5%, respectively. All three indicators set new historical records for the same period in history, while the passenger throughput continued to rank third nationwide.

According to the statistics revealed by the Civil Aviation Administration of China on September 1, the nationwide civil aviation processed a total of 147 million passenger trips during this summer, with a daily average of 2.37 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 3.6%. Domestic passenger traffic was primarily concentrated on core routes connecting four major city clusters: Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region, and Chengdu-Chongqing region. According to statistics released by VariFlight, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport ranked among the top nationwide in both domestic and international flight volumes. Notably, its domestic flight volume ranked second only to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, making it the second busiest airport in China during this summer.

During the summer travel season of 2025, Chengdu Metro network handled a total of 380 million passenger trips, with a daily average of 6.13 million. July 11 marked a peak daily ridership of 7.2852 million.

On July 28, Chengdu Metro launched contactless payment services for bank cards, which allowed passengers to tap UnionPay, as well as Visa, Mastercard, and American Express issued abroad, to ride the metro. To date, 25,600 passengers have benefited from the convenience of “tap-and-go” bank card payment services on the metro.

“Due to a surge in tourist arrivals in Chengdu, the usage of daily passes permitting unlimited rides on Chengdu Metro grew by 28.14% during the summer travel season compared to ordinary days. The average daily entries at metro stations near the ‘three railway stations and two airports’ reached 286,000, an increase of 12.94% compared to figures prior to the summer travel season,” an official of Chengdu Rail Transit Group introduced.
