The renovated Lakeside Bookstore on the southern side of Xinglong Lake has recently reopened. On August 3, the bookstore welcomed visitors again under its new name, Resonance Bookstore, together with the launch of the “Guided by Water” Urban Humanities Public Art Season Opening Month Event Series.

The partially submerged bookstore, with its unique design, features a curved roof resembling a page gently lifted by the breeze, while its glass wall along the lakeside extends all the way into the water, making the entire bookstore appear as if it is emerging from the lake.

After the renovation, the bookstore has added nearly 5,000 new books and completely reworked its book selection structure. Instead of following traditional categories, the selection now aligns with the space itself and is organized around four themes—“Cognitive Evolution”, “Lakeside Life”, “Chengdu, My City”, and “Childhood Innocence”. Each zone is designed to match a different reading experience.

Additionally, the bookstore has been redesigned with dedicated areas, including a meditation reading area, a lakeside outdoor seating area, a coffee and conversation area, and a small exhibition area. Whether reading, enjoying the lake view, relaxing, or chatting, visitors can find their own peaceful corner.

With the launch of the “Guided by Water” Urban Humanities Public Art Season Opening Month Event Series, the Resonance Bookstore has officially entered trial operation, with three more events coming up soon.
