On December 19, the prestigious international academic journal Science unveiled its 2025 Breakthrough of the Year. Among them, the historic breakthrough in xenotransplantation features technological contributions from Chengdu. The gene-edited donor pigs mentioned in the journal came from Chengdu’s ClonOrgan Biotechnology Co., Ltd. The pig kidney with six modified genes provided by the company worked in a patient for 261 days during a groundbreaking transplant surgery this year, setting the world’s second-longest survival record for pig-to-human kidney xenotransplantation. This achievement signifies that China has advanced to the global forefront in this frontier medical field.
