When Chengdu’s innovative strength meets with Berlin’s cutting-edge ecosystems in science and technology, how will this cross-cultural exchange of ideas between the East and West chart the course for future cooperation?

From November 24 to 28, 2025, AsiaBerlin Summit 2025, a major international conference focusing on Eurasian innovation cooperation, was held in Berlin, Germany. At the invitation of the City of Berlin, a delegation from Chengdu Municipal Science and Technology Bureau visited Germany for the gathering. During the summit, the delegation showcased Chengdu’s strengths in science and technology to the world through 17 intensive exchange events. Building on this opportunity, the delegation has proactively established a bridge for innovation cooperation between Chengdu and Berlin.
In October 2025, Cao Lijun, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, led a delegation to visit Germany and held talks with Michael Biel, State Secretary for Economic Affairs in the Berlin Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy, and Public Enterprises. Both sides reached important consensus on further deepening friendship city relations and strengthening cooperation in sci-tech innovation, economic and trade sectors, cultural and arts, and other areas.
Chengdu delegation’s presence at the summit upon invitation not only represents another concrete action in implementing the high-level consensus between the two sides but also epitomizes Chengdu’s continued efforts to deepen pragmatic cooperation with Germany through friendship city relations. It has created new opportunities for expanding exchanges between the two cities into more fields in the future.
The delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with Timon Rupp, Vice Chair of AsiaBerlin Forum; Li Yiran, Chief Representative China of Berlin Business Desk China; Ma Guoliang, First Secretary of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of China in Germany; Nicola Pinna, Professor at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin; and other key figures. Through the distribution of promotional materials, policy briefings, and face-to-face symposia, Chengdu’s sci-tech innovation ecosystem and progress in key industries attracted wide attention from the international community.

The summit not only provided a gathering for intellectual exchange but also established a platform for pragmatic cooperation. Supported by Chengdu Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, five technology enterprises in Chengdu—Tecloman Energy GmbH, Duojinhai Intelligent Technology, Sichuan Yunxiangtianxia Technology Co., Ltd., New Lab Biotech, and Tianfu Xinlexiang Technology—attended the summit. They comprehensively demonstrated their innovative capabilities in energy storage, AI, biotechnology, and other areas through product displays and themed presentations.
Notably, Tecloman Energy GmbH shared its technical practices at the “Scaling Adoption of GreenTech and Energy Solutions” panel, while Sichuan Yunxiangtianxia Technology Co., Ltd. delivered a speech at the Sino-German Innovation Dialogue. A number of substantive cooperation initiatives were swiftly advanced on site: Sichuan Yunxiangtianxia Technology Co., Ltd. reached intended cooperation with the German Chamber of Commerce on the local adaptation of the “AI robot Chinese cuisine going global” project; New Lab Biotech established preliminary contacts with an Indian medical device company; and Tecloman Energy GmbH engaged with more than ten investment institutions. The on-site conclusion of the three intended cooperation initiatives has injected new momentum into Chengdu enterprises’ efforts to expand into global markets.
With a focus on long-term cooperation, the delegation reached a consensus with Dr. Jens Homann, Head of Unit Foreign Trade of Berlin Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy, and Public Enterprises, on jointly establishing the Chengdu-Berlin Science and Technology Innovation Interaction Platform. It is designed to achieve two-way empowerment: it helps Chengdu enterprises expand into European markets and facilitates the implementation and industrial application of Germany’s advanced technologies in digital manufacturing, ecological environment, and other areas.
Additionally, the delegation reached cooperation intentions with four institutions—Berlin Partner, CIC Berlin, Venture Café Berlin, and Berlin Business Desk China. They intended to collaborate in enterprise services, incubator operations, venture funds, and other areas, jointly building a transcontinental Eurasian network for technology commercialization and service support.

The presence at the AsiaBerlin Summit 2025 represents Chengdu’s pragmatic step in actively integrating itself into the global innovation network and contributing to high-level opening up. These efficient international exchanges have enabled Chengdu to showcase to the world its vibrant sci-tech innovation and open new avenues for local enterprises to access global resources and broaden their international horizons.
Looking ahead, Chengdu will establish a dedicated working mechanism to closely follow up on the intended cooperation projects reached during the summit and promote their concrete implementation through “one-on-one” services. Meanwhile, Chengdu will work with Berlin to build regular matchmaking channels and, supported by diverse activities, help outstanding enterprises in AI, the digital economy, and other areas go global and participate in global innovation cooperation in greater depth.
Building on the summit, Chengdu will continue to expand and deepen international exchanges in science and technology, seize new opportunities through opening up, develop competitive edges through cooperation, and contribute Chengdu’s strengths to the development of an inclusive, collaborative, and resilient global innovation ecosystem.
