On August 18, Chengdu Customs released the latest foreign trade statistics, showing that since the beginning of this year, despite the complex and challenging international environment, Sichuan’s foreign trade has demonstrated strong resilience, withstanding pressure, maintaining vitality, and reaching a record high in import and export volume for the same period in history.
Statistics show that in the first seven months of this year, Sichuan’s foreign trade in goods reached RMB 602.57 billion, ranking No. 8 nationwide and registering a year-on-year growth of 3.9%. This is the first time that Sichuan’s import and export volume has exceeded RMB 600 billion for the same period in history, with the growth rate 0.4 percentage points higher than the national average.
According to Chengdu Customs, in the first seven months of this year, Chengdu’s imports and exports reached RMB 498.53 billion, up by 6.8% year on year, accounting for 82.7% of Sichuan’s total foreign trade value. This contributed 5.5 percentage points to Sichuan’s overall foreign trade growth, underscoring Chengdu’s continued core role in stabilizing Sichuan’s foreign trade. It was noted that after hitting a record high for the same period in history during the first half of the year, Chengdu’s foreign trade scale continued to set a new record in the first seven months.
The data also showed that the continuous expansion of market entities and the ongoing optimization of industrial structure are two other striking features of Sichuan’s foreign trade growth this year. In the first seven months, more than 8,000 enterprises in Sichuan recorded actual import and export performance, an increase of 9.2% year on year.
Exports are moving further up the value chain, with rapid growth in integrated circuits, high-end equipment, and flat-panel display modules. Exports of the “new three” products—electric passenger vehicles (new energy vehicles), lithium batteries, and solar cells—totaled RMB 16.65 billion, representing an increase of 88.7% year on year.
