Chengdu Ranked 4th among the Top 10 Most Mentioned Chinese Cities by Facebook Users

A lot of charming tourist attractions in Sichuan have long been attracting numerous overseas tourists.
According to Facebook’s recent white paper on China's inbound tourism, the Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic Area and Mt. Emei in Sichuan Province were ranked 3rd and 4th respectively on the Top 10 Most Popular Destinations in China for Overseas Tourists list. Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan, was ranked 4th among the top 10 most mentioned cities in China by Facebook users.

Mt. Emei is a World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site for its breathtaking scenery, mysterious natural wonders and historical Buddhist sites.
Top 10 tourist source countries for China are South Korea, Japan, the United States, Vietnam, Russia, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Singapore and India.

According to the white paper, those traveling to China primarily for sightseeing, having a better understanding of Chinese culture and for relaxation, account for 64%, 50% and 45% respectively of the total tourists. And those for visiting friends/relatives and shopping account for 28%.

A lot of charming tourist attractions in Sichuan, including adorable giant pandas, mysterious ancient Southern Silk Road, the brilliant culture of the Three Kingdoms, the beautiful Jiuzhaigou Valley and Mt. Emei, one of China's “Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains", have long been attracting numerous overseas tourists.

Over the recent years, Chengdu has been seeing more and more tourists from home and abroad. In 2014, it received 186.2 million domestic and foreign visitors, up 20.05 per cent year on year. Among them, 1.97 million are inbound tourists, increasing 11.66 per cent from a year earlier.

In January 2015, Chengdu was named one of the “52 Places to Go in 2015” by The New York Times, as one of the only two Chinese cities (the another one is Zhouzhuang) on the list. Before that, the city had won lots of tourism-themed titles, including the Excellent Tourist City in China, the Best Tourist City in China and one of the Happiest Cities in China. It had also been approved by the World Center of Excellence for Destinations (CED) as a member of the network, becoming the first city in Asia to win the title. Chengdu will be the second Chinese city to host the 22nd United Nations World Tourism Organization General Assembly in 2017 after Beijing which hosted the event in 2003.

Conveniently connected to over 100 domestic and international airports, Chengdu is accessible from and to almost all the major countries in the world.
