The 2-day 2019 Annual Conference of the Chinese Committee of Giant Panda Breeding Techniques opened in Chengdu on Nov. 12.
About 360 experts, representatives and guests from zoos, including Adventure World in Shirahama of Japan, the Berlin Zoological Garden of Germany, Copenhagen Zoo of Denmark and San Diego Zoo of America, and universities and R&D institutions of cooperation programs on giant pandas, attended the opening ceremony.
Latest data of giant pandas were released at the opening ceremony. There are 60 new pandas from 37 births, 57 of them survived, bringing the number of global captive giant pandas to 600. Scientific development of the species also made a great progress. Sichuan Academy of Giant Panda was founded on the occasion of 150th anniversary of discovering giant panda this year. Sichuan Province is home to over 1,300 wild giant pandas, accounting for 75% of the country, and is the center of pandas' distribution.
