The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (Chengdu Panda Base), located about 15km from downtown Chengdu, opened in 1988 and includes a research center, an research laboratory, a veterinary hospital, an enclosure, and an open ground for giant panda activities. It is the most famous research base in China dedicated to the protection of the giant pandas.

The Dujiangyan Base of the China Conservation & Research Center for the Giant Panda was built in 2011 with financial support from HK SAR government following the 2008 earthquake and officially opened in March 2013.
Located in Shiqiao Village, the area also has an excellent ecological environment, plenty of edible bamboo for pandas and a pollution-free water source.
Covering a total area of 506,667 sq. m. and a construction area of 12,542 sq. m., the base consists of six functional zones: rescue and quarantine; disease control and research; rehabilitation, training and feeding; reception and education; natural vegetation and service.
As China’s first research base for the rescue and disease control of wild giant pandas, the base is capable of rescuing up to 40 giant pandas simultaneously. The first batch of 10 injured pandas moved into the base at its 2013 opening.
The Wolong Giant Panda Base, or Wolong National Natural Reserve, the third largest natural reserve in China, is a protected area which was established in 1936. The reserve covers an area of about 700,000 hectares, including 200,000 hectares in the Qionglai Mountains region, one of the major panda habitats. With over 4,000 different species recorded in the reserve, it is a home to many endangered animals, including giant pandas, red pandas, golden monkeys and white-lipped deer.
The Bifeng Gorge is located in Ya’an City to the southwest of Chengdu. In 2003, the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Pandas and the State Forestry Administration chose this site as a new giant panda base, which features lush vegetation, valleys and waterfalls. It has the giant panda breeding zone, baby giant panda care zone, research center, bamboo forests and office area.

Giant panda delivers twin cubs in Chengdu
CHENGDU - A giant panda gave birth on Monday to twin cubs in Chengdu, capital city of Southwest China's Sichuan province. Yaxing gave birth to the twins -- a female and male -- at 8:13 am and 8:44 am at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, scientists told Xinhua. They are the first set of panda twins to be born this year in the city.
