Chengdu’s GDP Exceeds RMB1,701 Bln in 2019

Last year, Chengdu's GDP reached RMB1,701.27 billion, rising by 7.8% year on year at a comparable price.
The city's added values of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries were nearly RMB61.22 billion, RMB524.46 billion and RMB1,115.59 billion, respectively, increasing by 2.5%, 7.0% and 8.6% respectively over a year ago.
The total retail sales of consumer goods hit RMB747.84 billion, a growth rate of 9.9% from the previous year. And the city saw the soar of the first-store economy. In 2019, 473 first stores of home and foreign brands opened in Chengdu, up 136.5% over a year ago. With 57 stores, the city ranked third in China, following Shanghai and Beijing, in terms of the number of first stores in the world and China.
The city realized a gross foreign trade volume of RMB582.27 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16.9%. The imports and exports between Chengdu and countries and regions along the Belt and Road increased by 23% year on year to RMB171.42 billion, accounting for 29.4% of the city's total. The growth rates between Chengdu and ASEAN and EU countries were 36.5% and 20.6%, respectively.
The Chengdu Hi-Tech Comprehensive Bonded Zone accomplished a gross export and import volume of RMB433.01 billion, rising by 23.0% year on year and topping all of its Chinese counterparts for the 21st consecutive month.
Last year, the city opened 15 direct international (regional) flights, increasing its total number of such flight to 73. By the end of 2019, it had had a total of 126 international (regional) air links.
The Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport ranked fourth in China in terms of the annual passenger traffic (55.86 million) and annual inbound and outbound passenger traffic (more than 7 million) in 2019.
Linking 26 foreign cities, the Chengdu International Railway Port ran a total of 3,186 inbound and outbound cargo trains in 2019, including 1,551 running along the China-Europe Express Railway which topped all of its peers in the country.
In the past year, the city opened its door wider to the outside world and expanded exchanges and cooperation with foreign countries and regions. In last December, the 8th China-Japan-ROK leaders' meeting was hosted in Chengdu, which had established a sister-city relationship or a friendly and cooperative tie with 103 foreign cities, and had been home to 301 Fortune Global 500 companies.
578 foreign-invested companies were newly registered in the city, and 118 major projects with a foreign investment of US$10 million each approved.
Chengdu also made great achievements in six sectors involving cultural creativity, tourism, sports events, catering, music, as well as exhibitions and conferences. It welcomed 280 million tourists, including 3.8 million from overseas, and realized a total revenue of RMB466.35 billion from the travel industry. And last year, Chengdu hosted the 18th World Police and Fire Games (WPFG), which attracted over 10,000 police officers and firefighters from 79 countries and regions across the globe.
