Maputo is the capital of Mozambique, the largest city as well as political, economic and educational center of the country. Its major industries involve textile, food, ceramics, furniture and leather shoes, etc. As one of the most dynamic cities in sub-Saharan Africa, Maputo is noted for its cashew nut products in the world, and has a great potential of investment in infrastructure, agricultural products processing, tourist real estate, hospitality operations management, and sci-tech innovation, etc.

Exchanges between Chengdu and Maputo:

Chengdu and Maputo are both members of the World e-Government Organization of Cities and Local Governments (WeGO), an international organization of cities and local governments that pursues sustainable urban development based on e-Government and information and communication technology (ICT). Since 2012, the two cities have conducted frequent exchanges in the field of e-government. Maputo participated in a number of international activities organized by Chengdu, including the 2rd WeGO General Assembly 2014, Chengdu International Sister Cities Youth Music Festival, and Chengdu Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair (GIEF). It welcomes Chengdu companies to invest and develop in its country.

In November 2016, Yu Wei, the then chairman of Chengdu Municipal People's Congress, visited Mozambique and signed an MoU with Mr. David Simango, Mayor of Maputo.

In May 2017, Mr. Simango attended the 2017 Chengdu Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair (GIEF) and its side event Innovation Forum for Mayors of International Sister Cities of Chengdu.
