La Plata and Chengdu established a sister-city relationship on January 31, 2018.

La Plata is the capital city of Buenos Aires Province, the largest and most populous province in Argentina. Founded in 1882, the city, the fourth most densely-populated one in the country, covers an area of 203 square kilometers, with a population of 740,000. It is 58 kilometers away from Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina.

La Plata is well developed in finance, education, culture, sports and other sectors.

Exchanges between Chengdu and La Plata:

On May 21, 2015 (local time), Ao Xigui, the then vice chairman of Chengdu Municipal People's Congress, visited La Plata and signed an letter of intent on deepening Chengdu-La Plata friendly ties with the then mayor of La Plata.

A team consisting of a professional singer and tango dancers from La Plata attended the 2016 Chengdu International Sister Cities Youth Music Festival (July 27-August 02, 2016).

On September 26, 2016 (local time), Zhu Zhihong, the then Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee and managing deputy mayor of Chengdu, visited La Plata and had an amicable meeting with Julio Garro, mayor of La Plata. After the meeting, Mr. Garro named Zhu an honorary citizen of La Plata.
