Honolulu is the capital city and a port of Hawaii, the US. The name of the city, Honolulu, means “sheltered bay” or “place of shelter” in Hawaiian.

Honolulu is located in the southeastern end of Oahu Island in the Pacific Ocean, with an urban area of 217 sq. km and a downtown population of 370, 000. Total population of the city is around 850, 000, accounting for 4/5 of the Hawaiian population.

Honolulu has a mild climate, with an annual average temperature of 24 degree and annual average precipitation of 600 mm. Since 1959, Honolulu has become the capital city of Hawaii and a center of economy, business and politics.

Tourism is the pillar economy, with 6-7 million tourists arrive in the city every year. Sugar and pineapple processing account for more than half of the GDP and other industries include port machinery, ship repairing, publication and printing, cement, clothing and artware.

Exchange activities:

To support people in the disaster areas of the Wenchuan earthquake, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, the most infuential Chinese society in Hawaii, raised more than USD100, 000 soon after the strike of the earthquake.

In November 2010, the 4th Hawaii Veterans Goodwill Delegation visited Chengdu.

On June 14, 2013, a delegation from Hawaii came to attend The 4th Chengdu International Festival of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
