European Diplomats Eye Chengdu-Europe Express Rail

Authors: China Daily

A group of diplomats from 26 European countries visited Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province on July 18-21, in an effort to explore cooperation opportunities under China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
The European envoys were particularly interested in the Chengdu-Europe Express Rail. They visited the central container distribution station, joint inspection center and exhibition halls that demonstrate the development of the rail cargo freight line linking western China and Europe.
During their four-day stay in Chengdu, the delegation also visited museums, a panda breeding base, and a tea house to experience the local culture.
The diplomats were in China to attend the 10th European Diplomats Seminar. This year’s seminar has two stops, namely Sichuan and Ningxia Hui autonomous region, both being the key regions along the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and of strategic importance to help revive the ancient trade routes between Asia and Europe.
Over the past 10 years, nearly 300 European diplomats have visited China as part of activities aiming at both helping understand China’s regional and global initiatives and further promoting mutual exchange and cooperation in various fields. Such activities and seminars, according to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have made great contributions to the development of China-EU relations.
