“Cooperation and exchange between China and India have had fruitful results, and the establishment of the Consulate General in Chengdu will further promote cooperation and exchange between India and China, especially western China,” said Mr. Kantha in the interview.
According to the statement jointly issued by China and India this May, India is to set up a consulate general in Chengdu, which is the fourth consulate general in China. The consular districts of the consulate general include the provinces of Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and Chongqing Municipality.
Mr. Kantha revealed that India will, starting from this July, provide E-visa service to Chinese applicants. “The year of 2015 is designated as ‘The Year of Indian Tourism’ in China, and the E-visa service for Chinese applicants will help facilitate the friendly exchanges between the peoples, especially young people of the two countries.”
Mr. Kantha spoke highly of the first India-China (Chengdu) International Yoga Festival, “Yoga is an important part of the Indian culture and it is gaining popularity in China, especially among young people. I hope that Yoga will be the tie linking Chengdu and India and help the people from India and China know more about each other, and both sides will continue efforts to bring the cooperation and friendship to a broader scope and a higher level in the future.”
