The two schools, with the vision of cultivating world changers based on the Chinese culture and the mission of helping each kid to find himself/herself, will adopt New Zealand's education system to teach their students.

"The schools will offer their students access to the learning methods combining both Chinese and Western characteristics," said Mr. Weymes. In his perspective, each with its unique strengths, the Chinese and Western education systems should learn from each other, and the schools will draw on the strengths of Western educational system while maintaining the core of the Chinese one.

The University of Waikato has long been working together with its Chengdu counterparts, including the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, and University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. "I would like to see more cooperation in education between New Zealand and Chengdu and more students from my home country to study here."

Hamilton, the fourth largest city and the largest inland city in New Zealand, established a sister-city relationship with Chengdu in May 2015. Mr. Gallagher expressed a strong hope for a closer tie between Chengdu and Hamilton in agriculture, food processing, medical engineering and production technology, etc.
