Chengdu-Helsinki Direct Flight Hopefully to Open Next Year

“In September Chengdu and Helsinki reached consensus on launching direct air link between the two cities next year, and are discussing some details now,” said Mr. Jari Gustafsson, Ambassador of Finland to China, in an interview with Chengdu Daily during his first visit to Chengdu October 31.
Finland will cooperate more closely with Chengdu, especially in the areas of trade, education and culture. Mr. Gustafsson expressed, “the direct air route between the two cities is believed to enhance the mutual exchange, and it is of great significance to improve the mutual development in the tourist industry.” The Finnish government dispatched a team to Chengdu with Mr. Gustafsson, whose members are from the government departments working on tourism and economic promotion as well as companies. All of them have showed a strong intention to partner with their counterparts in Chengdu, according to Mr. Gustafsson.
The mutual partnership has already begun. In September, the Lappset and Santa Park in Finland signed a cooperative agreement with Chengdu Floraland Park to establish a Christmas-themed park, which will be the second in the world and the first in China. The project will be finished in mid 2016, and is a model of mutual partnership in the fields of creativity, gaming and culture, which has got strong support and highly recommended by the Embassy of Finland in China.
“Many of my friends told me about Chengdu, and it is famous in Finland. After I came to the city, I immeditely felt its strong attraction,” said Mr. Gustafsson, “I had the hot pot last night, which is a kind of food I like.” He also praised the city’s urban management. “The streets here are very clean, and the city impresses me highly and enables me to want to stay and live here. It is an international and inclusive city.”

The city has a lot to offer — diversified terrestrial features, abundant resources, agreeable living habitats, rich culture and colorful lifestyles.

Schedule of Direct International Routes

A relevant official from the Chengdu Municipal Logistics Office said that Chengdu has so far opened 232 passenger and cargo air routes, including 76 international (regional) ones covering major cities in Europe, the US and Australia-Asia region. In 2015, much more international flight routes will be put into operation, which will solidify the city's status as China's fourth aviation city.
