City Sees a 7.4% GDP Growth in Q1

The economy of Chengdu maintained a steady growth in the first quarter of 2015. Its gross domestic product (GDP) increased 7.4% to RMB246.23 billion at a growth rate 0.4 % higher than the national average, according to Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Statistics.
In the first three months of the year, the city’s primary, secondary and tertiary sectors realized an added value of RMB5.54 billion (approx. US$893.55 million), RMB110.96 billion (approx. US$17.90 billion) and RMB129.73 billion (approx. US$20.92 billion), up 2.3%, 6.0% and 9.1% respectively.
During the period, the added value from industry above the designated scale made a 6.2% growth year on year, while that of electronic and information industry fell by 4.1%, machinery grew by 4.5%, auto manufacturing grew by 5.1%, petrochemical industry soared by 18.4% and beverage and tobacco industries fell by 0.5%.
The service industry generated an added value of RMB129.73 billion (approx. US$20.92 billion), up 2.1% over the same period of last year. The city’s fixed-asset investment rose by 9.9% year on year to RMB140.20 billion (approx. US$22.61billion).
Meanwhile, the city’s total volume of consumer goods retail sales jumped by 10.7% year on year to RMB117.61 billion (approx. US$18.97 billion).
