Having a strong appeal to foreign investors, Chengdu has become the first choice of foreign-funded companies to make investment or expand operations in China, according to a series of reports recently published by the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC), the American Chamber of Commerce in China ((AmCham China), the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AmCham Shanghai), the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China (CJCCI) and Japan-China Economic Association.

The survey shows that for foreign-funded companies China is still critical for their global revenues and continues to be strategically important. The number of European companies that generated 10% or more of their global revenues in China has increased for the past five consecutive years,and the proportion of the companies jumped to 48% in FY 2013 from 32% in FY 2009. And that of the companies which generated less than 5% of their global revenues in China fell from 45% in FY 2009 to 31% in FY 2013.
According to the survey, 45% of European companies are considering expanding their operations to other provinces or cities in China, and Sichuan ranked first on the list of choice for two straight years.
Chengdu, Top Destination for American Investment in China
The AmCham China's 2014 American Business in China White Paper and the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai’s China Business Report 2013-2014 show that China is a significant overseas market for foreign companies.
According to the reports, 20% of the American companies chose China as their favorite investment destination. The number of the US-based companies which generated over 30% of their global revenues in China continued growth in recent years, and the proportion of these companies jumped to 23.5% in FY 2013 from 14% in FY 2009. And that of the companies which generated less than 2% of their global revenues in China fell from 21.8% in FY 2009 to 19.1% in FY 2013.
This year’s findings indicate that Chengdu is favored by American companies in expanding their business in China. And the city retained the first place on the rankings for six consecutive years, followed by Wuhan, Hubei Province and Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.
