Young overseas Chinese Attend "Root-seeking" Summer Camp in Chengdu

The 2014 Young Overseas Chinese “Root-seeking” Summer Camp started on July 16 in Chengdu and more than 100 overseas Chinese youths from the UK, the US, New Zealand, Singapore and Russia gathered in the city to experience the profound Chinese culture and civilization.
Co-sponsored by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, and organized by the Sichuan Normal University, the 10-day program provides the campers with an international platform combining education, cultural experience and entertainment.
During the event, the youngsters will visit famous scenic spots in Chengdu like the Du Fu’s Thatched Cottage Museum and Jinli Cultural Block and watch performances featuring traditional Chinese art and culture, such as the Sichuan Opera.
Growing up in the US, Liu Yuming is a student from the Atlanta Contemporary Chinese Academy. She said this is her fourth time to come back to Chengdu and her grandparents are still living in the city. “I want to learn more about Chengdu, which gets more and more beautiful and international and I like it.”
The annual Root-seeking Summer Camp debuted in 1999 and has attracted lots of overseas Chinese youths to participate.
