Carlo Petrini, founder and president of the Slow Food International, paid a visit to Chengdu on June 22.
"Sichuan cuisine has made tremendous achievements in promoting the Chinese cuisine and culture, as well as in protecting local elements," said Mr. Petrini.
The Seventh Slow Food International Conference will be held in Chengdu in September, which will attract over 600 representatives from about 90 countries and regions.
As a nonprofit organization recognized by the United Nations, the Slow Food International has expanded to include more than 83,000 members, with about 800 branches in over 170 countries and regions around the world.
Mr. Petrini visited Sichuan University with an intention to enhance exchange on gastronomical culture and art between Sichuan University and University of Gastronomic Sciences (UNISG).
The UNISG in Piedmont, Italy, is an academic institution devoted to combining agriculture, food, social and economic development. To date, students from more than 75 countries have taken its courses since it opened in 2004.
