The Chengdu cultural relics and archeology research institute announced May 14 its archaeological discovery and excavation of more than 6,000 ancient tombs and tens of thousands of rare relics in the city, which date back to the Warring States Period (475-221 BC) to Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
Since March 2015, the institute has been conducting the excavation at the Singapore-Sichuan Hi-Tech Innovation Park (SSCIP), where a settlement site in the late Neolithic period and the 6,000 plus tombs were unearthed.
Among the relics excavated from the site, including potteries, porcelains and those made of copper, iron, glass and stone, the most precious are a dagger-axe made in the Warring States Period (475-221BC), a pie-shaped object with dragon pattern in the Western Han Dynasty (202BC-8AD), a gold coin in the Xinmang period (9-23AD), and a sarcophagus in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220).
