On March 15, the direct air service between Chengdu and Los Angeles operated by Hainan Airlines was launched.
It is operated by Hainan Airlines using Boeing 787 luxury wide-body jet.
John W. Bruns, president of Boeing China said: "we are very glad that Hainan Airlines chose the Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets to operate the route. Compared with other aircraft with the same number of seats, the Boeing 787 planes are more environmentally friendly, more cost-efficient and more comfortable, and can reduce the fuel consumption and carbon emission both by 20%." It's worth mentioning that the rudders for the aircraft are all made in Chengdu.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner was launched by Boeing Commercial Airplanes on Dec. 15, 2009. The AVIC Chengdu Aircraft Industrial (Group) Co., Ltd. is the the one and only rudder supplier for the aircraft in the world. Up to now, the Chengdu company has delivered 535 rudders for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets.
Mr. Bruns said Chengdu has made great progress in the civil aviation transportation industry. The launch of the direct Chengdu-LA air link shows the city's great potential in the aviation industry.
