【Video】How to Disinfect Your Home to Prevent Novel Coronavirus

Authors: Go Chengdu

Here are some tips about preventing the novel coronavirus infection from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Does every house need to be disinfected?
No, it doesn't. As long as you don't have any strange visitor, or family member who has exposed to the novel coronavirus or has got sick in your home, there is no need to disinfect your house. Keep your rooms well ventilated, wash your hands frequently with soap under running water, and clean your house properly.
Do I need to disinfect my clothes every time when I return home from outside?
No, you don't. If you contact something dirty outside, please don't touch your eyes, noses and mouth with your hands. Wash your hands immediately after you get home. Leave your clothes and shoes at the front door. There's no need to disinfect the clothes and shoes.
Can evaporating vinegar kill the virus in the room and drinking liquor prevent the infection with the virus?
No. Neither one works.
Can I use disinfectant instead of water when I do housework?
Yes, but there is no need to do so unless you have any visitor who has exposed to the virus or any family member with suspicious symptoms. If you want to disinfect tableware, you can steam them with boiled water for 10 minutes.
Do I need to disinfect my pets?
It's better to keep your pets at home now. So far, there has had no evidence showing that pets such as dogs and cats can be infected with the virus. Just wash your hands with soap under running water after having touched them.
Can I use disinfectant to wash a mop or rag?
We don't recommend you to do so. But if you want to disinfect the table and floor, you can spray disinfectant which is properly diluted directly on them. You can also use it to wash the mop and then throw it out.
What is chlorine disinfectant?
Let's look at the active ingredient lists on 84 disinfectants. Those which contain sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite, sodium dichloro cyanurate or any other chlorine ingredients, are chlorine disinfectants. Chlorhexidine and chlorine dioxide are not chlorine disinfectants. We shouldn't use them as chlorine disinfectants.
Do I need to sterilize my cellphone?
Yes, you do. Turn off the cellphone, and wipe the screen with disinfectant regularly.
