Geely to Build High-end New Energy Vehicle Production Plant in Chengdu

The 2017 China Auto Venture Capital Summit was held in Chengdu on May 25, and Yu Xueliang, Vice President of Geely, one of China’s largest private automakers, was present at the event. He expressed that Chengdu is key to Geely’s strategic development in new-energy vehicles.
Geely, the brand owner of Swedish Volvo, built its own manufacturing base in Chengdu ten years ago. "Besides the BMA platform-based passenger vehicle project which was completed last month in the Chengdu Economic and Technological Development Zone, Geely would build a high-end new energy vehicle production facility in the city that will manufacture high-performance pure electric vehicles with the latest European technology," said Yu at the meeting.
Recent years has witnessed Chengdu's rapid development in the auto industry. By the end of April 2017, the city's number of registered cars had reached nearly 4.25 million, ranking second in the country. And in 2016 its annual car production amounted to 1.15 million, with a yearly output value RMB172.7 billion. As one of the most important auto production bases in China, the city is expected to manufacture as many as 3 million cars annually by 2020.
Chengdu established a new energy vehicle association with China's eight leading companies on November 2, 2016. It's reported that the city is preparing to set up a fund to develop the new energy auto industry, in a great effort to provide strong support for the growth of the new energy vehicle industrial chains.
