City to Spur Transit-oriented Development

With the support of the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Commerce held February 28 a conference on how to promote transit-oriented development (TOD) in the city.
Transit-oriented Development (TOD) is a fast growing trend in urban planning that creates vibrant, livable, sustainable communities. It is the creation of compact, walkable, pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use communities centered around high quality train systems.
The event brought together more than 600 representatives from 301 companies in more than 10 countries (regions), including Japan, France, Singapore and Denmark. On the day before the conference, some of the guests visited the Chengdu Planning Exhibition Hall and had a better understanding of the city's history, culture, geography, economic and social development, urban planning and vision for future development.
At the conference, 14 TOD experts from all over the world shared other cities' experience of TOD's planning, design, business operation and commercial development.

And the governments of Chengdu's Jinniu, Shuangliu and Chenghua districts signed MoUs for 4 TOD projects worth RMB24 billion in total, with the Cedar Holdings, French National Railway Company (SNCF) and other two companies, respectively.
In addition, the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Commerce, working together with Cushman & Wakefield and Chengdu Research Institute of Service Industry, released two research reports which outline Chengdu's TOD systems, analyze the business models of TOD around the globe, as well as provide guidance for the development of TOD projects in the city.

City Uses QR Code-based Payment Application for Public Transportation

The new payment service, allowing passengers to take a bus by paying through scanning a QR code with their mobile phones, got operational May 4 in Chengdu, according to the Chengdu Tianfutong Financial Services Co., Ltd.
