City Sees Tourism Boom during National Day Holiday

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Chengdu presented a large number of cultural events and programs during the 7-day holiday.
During the just past seven-day National Day holiday, Chengdu saw a tourist boom. With a prosperous holiday economy, the city launched a series of tourist activities, as well as new itineraries and products to attract more visitors from home and abroad. According to latest statistics, Chengdu welcomed nearly 20.17 million tourists and realized a total revenue from the travel sector of RMB28.65 billion, increasing by 32.70% and 25.20% respectively.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the city presented a large number of cultural events and programs during the 7-day holiday. On the morning of October 1, more than 100,000 locals and tourists watched a flag-raising ceremony at the Tianfu Square in downtown Chengdu, to express their respect for the national flag and love for the motherland.
Among the cornerstones of Chengdu's night-time economy, museums, foods, B&Bs, Sichuan Opera shows, cultural performances and cruising on Jinjiang River at night became highlights during the holiday. The boat tour, together with the light shows along the Tianfu Greenway and metro lines, were highly popular, adding luster to Chengdu, a city that never sleeps.

We were able to have a rest thanks to Chinese National Day, which is celebrated on October 1 to commemorate the founding of the People’s Republic of China. On that day, lots of large-scale activities are held nationwide. Obviously, we were not going to miss the opportunity to travel, so we visited two well-known places in Sichuan: Bipenggou Mountain and the Leshan Giant Buddha.
