City’s Cultural, Creative Development Hopefully to be Written in UN Report

On November 26, the Forum on International Cultural Industries Chengdu Summit, China, was convened at the Global Center in Chengdu.
At the summit, Chengdu's achievements in the cultural and creative sectors were highly recognized by both Chinese and foreign experts. Ms.Carolina Quintana, Director of Creative Economy Programme, UNCTAD, said she would further look into Chengdu's cultural and creative environment and strength, and take Chengdu as a special case in a UN report on the world's development in cultural and creative industries.
Before the summit, Ms. Quintana visited the venue for the 2016 Chengdu Creativity & Design Week with great interest. She highly commented the exhibits showcased at the Week. Paying particular attention to the creative products featuring unique Chengdu culture, she said that the Week created a high-end platform for developing cultural and creative industries, bringing together companies and talented people with strong design capability to enhance Chengdu's level of cultural creativity and innovation.
"Chengdu has a long history and rich culture. I believe it will play a bigger role in the cultural and creative sectors in the future," said Ms.Quintana. She revealed that she is considering to include the city's cultural and creative development into the United Nations' report on the world's growth in the cultural and creative industries. And in the next step, she would further look into the city's cultural and creative development.
Ms.Quintana expressed that unique urban culture is key to the development of the cultural and creative industry. Chengdu should make full use of its resources and accelerate the development of the cultural and creative industries. She suggested that the city should cooperate more with other cities in the area of Internet. Over the recent years, Chengdu's hi-tech industries and companies have been growing rapidly, and it could facilitate its cultural industries with the help of high technology.

The city's efforts to promote tourism in recent years have given rise to various new forms of tourism, such as eco-tourism, Three Kingdoms theme tourism, rural tourism, and folk culture theme tourism, which have greatly expanded the scope and enriched the contents of leisure tourism of the city and injected new cultural vitality to the city's tourist industry.
